A Liberal Marines Progressive Perspective

Marines are defenders of the republic and the Constitution. That is our oath, that is our purpose, that is our calling. Many are Democrats. This is the journal of one such Marine. This leatherneck's progressive perspective is as follows...

Read "War Is A Racket" by 2-time Medal of Honor recipient Maj.Gen.S.D.Butler, plus Lewis B. Puller, Jr.'s "Fortunate Son" and maybe then you'll understand. Semper Fi!

We Can Do So Much BetterPosted by Hello
Mornin' all. While getting in a good PT (physical training for all you non-jarheads) session this morning, I was thinking about making a morning post about the upcoming State of the Union Address (on tonight, 2000 hrs. CST), focusing on what the President was (possibly) going to say and especially on what the President would say about Iran and Syria, in terms of whether or not they're next on the "Middle Eastern Hit Parade". However, before I could do that, I came across some very disturbing information on how the majority of bankruptcies in this country are due, not to financial irreponsibility in the form of credit irresponsibility (i.e., credit cards, car notes, etc.); but instead to people, working people, not being able to pay whopping medical bills!!! Found this link from CNN that goes into detail:

People, this is a national disgrace,...simply obscene. What kind of country is this where we allow our fellow Americans to be destroyed financially just because they got sick?!? Am I the only one that finds this patently absurd?!? I mean, it's like the choice is either you can go "belly-up" physically or "belly-up" financially...take your pick. People, maybe I'm going overboard, but that kind of logic is just downright evil. This is a domestic emergency as far as I'm concerned, a travesty that must be addressed and made right. Again, what kind of country is this where its citizens are always under the financial gun, sweating bullets hoping that they don't get sick because, if they do (and most of us will because we are *gasp* mortal), they run the real risk of being financially wiped out? Kindler, gentler nation my ass. Where is Dr. Marvin Olasky's "compassionate conservatism" now, I'm sure as hell looking for it and I sure as hell don't see it. It is also wrong to pit the health care professionals (especially the doctors and nurses) against the patient, creating an us vs. them mentality based on money and profit thus creating a pseudo-environment of contempt between care taker and patient that really shouldn't exist in the first place. I can't say it enough,...this is wrong and is just another indicator of how our nation is being pushed to the limits internally. This isn't the kind of Americanism or American spirit that I was defending and gladly putting my life in harms way for and (I doubt) neither were those devildogs (and one Navy corpsman) placing the flag on Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima February 1945, as pictured above. Semper Fidelis
